FOUR TUESDAY EVENINGS, SEPT 26 – OCT 17, 6 – 8pm
TEMESCAL ARTS CENTER, 511 48th St, OAKLAND
$25 Four Weeks ~ Sign up by SEPT 22 ($10 Drop-Ins)
~ Come experience Tuning Scores in a fun, intimate evening dance setting ~
Tuning Scores are a fascinating mosaic of movement and performance discoveries originated by Lisa Nelson and practiced by groups of tuners internationally over the past several decades, and the material has influenced many dancers who don’t even realize its origins. The Scores reveal basic elements of action, by attuning to the rich details of composition, behavior, and communication, altogether. These sense-perceptual-mind-moving games are a multisensorial and kaleidoscopic set of practices that are wildly fun to do. Through the specificity of solo movement warmups, group dancing, and verbal cues, tuning lays out an approach for performance research that can change how you make, perceive, and do in any creative medium.
“There are no images without participation…” -Lisa Nelson
The Scores are useful for people from many fields of practice: dancers, visual artists, poets, performance academics, moms, perceptual scientists, and all interested beings.
Drop-Ins Welcome, and so so good if you come to all, for the growth of practice.

DOVER PARK, OAKLAND
$150 ~ Register by SEPT 29 ($165 After)
Wild Goose Qigong is a breathakingly beautiful Taoist alchemical movement practice that harmonizes energetic flow and helps people experience the inheritance of their self-healing. The forms emerged over a thousand years ago, inspired by the movements of geese. In this ten-week series, our practice will concentrate on Spiral Set Four, and additionally we will practice qigong movement warm-ups and meditations. Our practicing will incorporate inquiries from the group, and sections from the mosaic of Wild Goose sets — each one offers different qualities of the movement of our qi.
In November, the class will move inside to Ellen Webb’s Studio on Union Street. The final day, December 12, is a rain date.

In this three-week qigong series, we will practice gentle qigong exercises focused on nourishment and health — the meditation and movements will focus on the Treasures of Wild Goose, simple practices that can be learned easily and repeated over time. Each week, we will also focus on an aspect particularly germane to the elemental forces associated with the Fall. These practices nurture our fundamental source of energy, and invite us to relax, in stillness and movement. This workshop is great for all ages and abilities, beginners, as well as advanced practitioners who would like deep clarification on some qigong basics.

This afternoon retreat will provide a space for deep winter qigong nourishment — of the body-being and the mind. In our time together, we will learn some basic and potent principles that underlie our cultivation of qi — our vital breath, and we will use some creative tools to enliven this process.
