Two-Day Workshop ~
$75 Early Bird (By April 14) – $100 (After April 14) Read below for Registration information.
In this 2-day workshop, we will enter a cave formed from our gathering–a cave from which new shapes, tones, sounds, and text will emerge. Through moving, reading and listening to texts, generative writing prompts, and sound experiments, we will explore caves amongst ourselves–sources of power and potential, stillness and non-production, nourishment and regeneration. We will explore sources of darkness, stillness, and fecundity for life and art.
Who are we in relation to each other? What are we in constellation? Shifting between modes, we will experience the torsion between creativity and stillness in new ways. …expanding our understanding of form, process, and tone.
Many of us feel at an impasse now. We invite you to practice with us in this impasse, creating a deliberate space of incubation, to build passages from the impasse. We invite you to experience the dark as a space of imagination, fecundity, and stillness. As artists, we are zoned for both cave and theater–the space of composition and public presentation.
We will work principally with Margit’s ongoing investigation Cave Forms and the philosopher Édouard Glissant’s writings on opacity–the way every body, text, art, language, culture is irreducible. We will work with composition as relation. How can we bring words and ideas into movement & body practice? How can our practice re-enter social space as political and aesthetic act?
If these are dark times, then “we clamor for the right to opacity for everyone” (Glissant).
Facilitators: Margit Galanter and Eleni Stecopoulos. We are two artists who have collaborated over the last seven years through conversation, performance, writing, and co-teaching community workshops. We share a commitment to writing as an embodied practice and to holistic forms of art and healing. Margit’s investigations of movement arts as forms of inscription and vital nourishment have influenced Eleni’s inquiry into healing. In turn, Eleni’s compositional and curatorial braiding has enriched Margit’s understanding of language and place. We have found that dialogue between writing and movement animates creative practice, and expands our understanding of form, process, and tone. We enjoy bringing our dialogue to you, by offering workshops that might enrich and even transform your practice.
Expect an open and encouraging atmosphere for all kinds of writing, forms of expression, bodies, and abilities. All welcome. No experience with writing or movement necessary.
